Increasing Notebook Battery Life
Battery power for laptops last up to eight hours exceeding from one hour and this depends upon the model of the laptop. However, the interesting point to be mentioned here is “you could have your laptop’s battery duration increased up to one or two hours, using it efficiently”. The battery could easily be saved using modes for saving battery that come built-in.
Hibernation and stand by are the two built-in battery saving modes. When you switch your computer to stand by you have your open applications saved in RAM. As soon as you switch to this mode, you would have your monitor switch off but you have your processor running the working state could be established as soon as you click or move your mouse.
The other battery saving mode is hibernation. This is generally used when you have your laptop left unattended for long time. The open applications are immediately stored on your hard disk and every thing running then goes off. The soft rebooting as if restart makes every thing come back to its position.
The other option is making your laptop setting preferences so that as soon as you leave your notebook unattended it could doze off.
A few more battery practices are also added to help you reduce the battery consumption increasing the battery life. Have your monitor control that fit your rooms lighting conditions. This could be achieved through dimming the brightness and the contrast. Make sure you can view the content on monitor with ease. Switch off the auto-save and auto-update while you have your notebook working over a battery. Try to avoid use of the external attachments as they consume a lot of energy.
Increase the memory of RAM. Introduce additional RAM if you have slots available. Doing this would reduce the burden over your hard disk. Hard disk consumes a lot of power and as it would have fewer burdens, it would consume less power. Do not play a movie or music while you run your battery. If you have to play a CD or DVD the best option is to copy, it first on Hard Disk then plays it. Switch off any unused application as this would add to the burden over the hard disk consequently consuming more energy. Mute the speaker of your notebook. The thing to be remembered is “work with only those tasks which are the need of hour”.
Taking a very good care for your battery would also add to its life. If you have a nickel-metal hydride battery then advice is to have them drained fully before recharging them. If you are not using your laptop for long period then make sure you have had your battery pack removed to avoid leakage. Before you have your battery removed make sure, you have it charged fully and then stored. Do not place your battery with metal parts as it could lead to a short circuit.
Using these modes and methods, you could have your battery life increased considerably.
